On 14 April 2025, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) approved the European Standard EN 17826:2025, Child care articles - Chemical hazards - Requirements. The standard will be published in the near future.
According to its draft standard FprEN 17826:2025, the standard intends to control 7 categories of chemical substances in 14 kinds of child care articles: migration of 19 elements, 3 flame retardants (TCEP, TCPP, TDCP) contents, aniline, 129 allergenic fragrances content, formaldehyde content, 7 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) content, and formamide content and release.
The standard is not intended to apply to other children's furniture, highchairs, learning towers, soothers, soother holders, drinking equipment, cutlery and feeding utensils,
The final applicable product scope and chemical substances are subject to the officially published standard.
