On July 10, 2012, Tianjin Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision published the result of the 2nd-quarter spot check for wood furniture.

A total of 192 batches of furniture produced by 192 manufacturers were inspected. Among the inspected products, 189 batches passed, resulting in a 98.44% passing rate. The items that failed were found to have excessive formaldehyde and resistance to cigarette burns.

This spot check was conducted according to the GB 18584-2001 "Indoor Decorating and Refurbishing Materials – Limit of Harmful Substances in Wood Based Furniture" and GB/T 3324-2008 "Wooden Furniture – General Technical Requirements".

GB 18584-2001 is the mandatory standard which sets content limits of the harmful substances in all kinds of wood furniture used indoors. Therefore, all of the wood furniture sold in the Chinese market must comply with the requirements and the prescribed limits shown as below:
