On 14 April 2025, the EU approved to amend EU POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 and modify perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and its salts content limit, as well as PFOS-related compounds content limit in substances, mixtures or articles to be 0.025 mg/kg (0.0000025%) and 1 mg/kg (0.0001%), respectively |

On 14 April 2025, the European Commission approved a delegated regulation to amend Annex I to Persistent Organic Pollutants Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 as regards the entry of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and PFOS-related compounds. The delegated regulation will be published on the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
The content limits for perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and PFOS-related compounds are modified as follows:

(1) ≤ 10 mg/kg (0.001%) (for substances, mixtures).
(2) < 1000 mg/kg (0.1%) (for semi-finished products, articles).
(3) < 1 μg/m2 (for textiles, coated materials) |
PFOS, its salts:
≤ 0.025 mg/kg (0.0000025%) (for substances, mixtures, articles).
PFOS-related compounds (sum):
≤ 1 mg/kg (0.0001%) (for substances, mixtures, articles). |
The new limits shall apply from 3 December 2025.
