On 3 December 2024, the UK Government published guidance on that the EU GPSR Regulation (EU) 2023/988 will apply in UK Northern Ireland (NI) from 13 December 2024, and the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) can take enforcement action in cases that are nationally significant, novel or contentious in Northern Ireland (UK-NI). |

On 3 December 2024, the UK Government published guidance on products placed on the market of UK Northern Ireland (UK-NI), which states that the EU GPSR Regulation (EU) 2023/988 will apply in UK Northern Ireland (UK-NI) from 13 December 2024.
For the products placed on the market of UK Northern Ireland (UK-NI), the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has the ability to take enforcement action regards the EU GPSR Regulation (EU) 2023/988 in cases that are nationally significant, novel or contentious, and work with local authorities, other MSAs (Market Surveillance Authorities) and border control authorities, where necessary.
The UK OPSS is the Single Liaison Office (SLO) to represent the coordinated position of MSAs and border control authorities in the UK, and to assist in the cooperation between MSAs in different countries.
Intertek recommends companies of consumer products to the EU and UK-NI, ensure having established/assigned an EU (or UK-NI) company as the responsible person, examine the product labels and website if the required content is present, and conduct a complete safety assessment on the products.
